What counts as a skill
A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md in it: instructions Claude Code loads when the task matches, so the model follows your process instead of improvising one. A plugin bundles skills with commands, agents and hooks, and a marketplace is a repository of plugins you can add by URL.
Most entries here are one of three things — a single well-made skill, a collection someone maintains, or a marketplace pointing at other people's collections.
How this list is built
GitHub is searched each morning across the topics this ecosystem tags itself with, plus a handful of repositories included by name. That second part matters: search only finds what the topics say, and the largest project here tags itself skills rather thanclaude-code, so a purely topic-driven list misses it entirely.
Forks, archived repositories, anything under 300 stars and anything untouched for nine months are left out. Ranking is by stars, which measures attention rather than quality — read the last-activity marker alongside it.
Before installing anything: a skill is instructions your agent will follow and a plugin can carry hooks that run commands. Both are code you are choosing to trust. Read the SKILL.md and any hook definitions first, the same as you would a dependency.
Adding one to Claude Code
A marketplace is added once, then plugins are installed from it:
